Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday travelled in a bullet train from Tokyo to Sendai with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba, as part of his two-day official visit to Japan for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit.
The Japanese Prime Minister posted on X, “With Prime Minister Modi to Sendai. Continuing from last night, I’m accompanying him from inside the car.” Modi also shared pictures of their journey, noting their arrival in Sendai.

Upon arrival in Sendai, the two leaders met Indian loco pilots undergoing training at the East Japan Railway Company. They observed the new ALFA-X train and were briefed about the bullet train by the chairman of JR East, the train operator.

PM Modi Tours Semiconductor Facility in Miyagi
PM Modi also visited key industrial facilities near Sendai, including a semiconductor wafer fabrication plant in Miyagi Prefecture. The facility, being developed by Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan along with SBI Holdings and Japanese stakeholders under the joint venture Japan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (JSMC), is part of Japan’s major initiative to revive its chip-making industry.

The project, located at the Second Northern Sendai Central Industrial Park in Ohira Village, represents growing cooperation between India and Japan in economic security, covering semiconductors, AI, clean energy, and critical minerals.
India-Japan Strategic Cooperation
During his visit, India and Japan adopted a joint vision titled “India – Japan Joint Vision for the Next Decade: Eight Directions to Steer the Special Strategic and Global Partnership” and signed a joint declaration on security cooperation. An implementing arrangement was also signed for the Chandrayaan-5 lunar mission, a joint exploration of the Moon’s polar region.
On Saturday morning (IST), Modi also held discussions with governors of 16 Japanese prefectures in Tokyo. He is scheduled to travel to China later today for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting.
