Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced a landmark collaboration between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for the Chandrayaan-5 mission.
Speaking after talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo, Modi said the joint effort would serve as a symbol of global progress in space exploration.

“We welcome the collaboration between ISRO and JAXA for the Chandrayaan-5 mission. Our active participation has gone beyond the limits of the earth and will become a symbol of mankind’s progress in space,” PM Modi said.
Strengthening India-Japan Strategic Partnership
During the joint briefing, PM Modi underlined that the partnership between India and Japan extends beyond bilateral ties and contributes to global peace and security.

“Our discussions today were productive as well as purposeful. We agree that as the two largest economies of the world and living democracies, our partnership is essential not just for the two countries but also for global peace and security. Strong democracies are natural partners in shaping a better world,” he said.
The two leaders announced a roadmap for the next decade of cooperation, focusing on investment, innovation, technology, environment, health, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges.
“Today, we have laid the foundation of a new and golden chapter in our special strategic and global partnership. We have charted a roadmap for the next decade. In the center of our vision lie investment, innovation, economic security, environment, techology, health, mobility, people-to-people exchanges,” PM Modi stated.

Key Announcements on Investment and Technology
Highlighting Japan’s long-term commitment to India’s growth, PM Modi announced that Japan would invest 10 trillion yen in India over the next ten years.
“We have set a target of 10 trillion yen investment from Japan into India over the next ten years. Special emphasis will be placed on connecting Small and Medium Enterprises and Start-ups of India and Japan,” Modi said.
The two countries also agreed to deepen cooperation in defence industry, high technology, semiconductors, and rare earth minerals. Additionally, they will advance Digital Partnership 2.0 and launch an AI Cooperation Initiative.
