Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed the recent Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj as a historic event that strengthened India’s spirit of unity. Addressing the Lok Sabha, PM Modi compared the grand congregation to defining moments like the 1857 revolt and Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March, which paved the way for India’s independence.
“The Maha Kumbh demonstrated that there was no distinction between big and small — it reflected India’s immense strength. It reaffirmed that the profound element of unity is deeply ingrained within us,” PM Modi said.
Highlighting the massive participation, Modi emphasized, “People put aside their egos and gathered in Prayagraj with the feeling of ‘we’ and not ‘I’. The Maha Kumbh displayed our strength, especially when the world is in disarray.”
The Prime Minister made his statement amid protests by opposition members, led by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, demanding a debate on the Maha Kumbh. Speaker Om Birla clarified that as per Rule 372, the PM and ministers can make statements without facing questions.
Calling the Maha Kumbh a moment of “national consciousness awakening”, Modi added, “The power of our unity is so great that it can shatter any attempt to divide us. This unwavering spirit of oneness is a blessing for every Indian.”
PM Modi drew parallels with key moments in India’s history: “Our nation has witnessed events like the revolt of 1857, the martyrdom of Veer Bhagat Singh, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s ‘Delhi Chalo’ call, and Gandhi Ji’s Dandi March — all of which inspired the nation. Similarly, I see the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh as another defining moment reflecting an awakened nation.”

Recalling his visit to Mauritius, the Prime Minister shared, “The atmosphere of devotion, faith, and celebration was remarkable when holy water from Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj was offered at Ganga Talab. It reaffirmed how our traditions, culture, and values are embraced globally.”
Modi also praised the youth for embracing India’s heritage: “Look at our modern youth today — how deeply they connect with the Maha Kumbh and traditional festivals. The young generation is proudly embracing heritage, faith, and traditions with pride and devotion.”
The Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj not only showcased India’s unity but also became a symbol of cultural pride and national consciousness on a global stage.
