Kolkata: A day after arrest of West Bengal Minister Partha Chatterjee and his close associate Arpita Mukherjee in connection with money-laundering charges linked to a school jobs scam, both were sent to Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) custody. The arrested TMC leader and his aide will be produced again in court on August 3 for further proceedings.

As per the report, a special CBI court gave 10 days remand to the probe agency. It also ordered both the arrested accused undergo a medical checkup every 48 hours.

Earlier in the day, AIIMS Bhubaneshwar said that the arrested minister does not require hospitalisation. On Sunday, in a special hearing Calcutta High court had allowed ED to take Chatterjee to AIIMS as the court’s experience with regards to the role of doctors attached to the SSKM hospital in Kolkata was not satisfactory. The court has also observed that several TMC leaders had avoided interrogation by investigating authorities by taking shelter at the hospital.

On Sunday, the ED had told Calcutta High Court that Partha Chatterjee is behaving like a ‘don’ in the hospital. Hours after the arrest on Saturday, the minister had complained some health problems and was taken to the SSKM Hospital by probe agency.

The investigation agency told had Calcutta High Court’s single judge bench of Justice Bibek Chaudhuri that the minister has faked illness to avoid law. Partha was arrested by the ED on Saturday in connection with its probe into the alleged school jobs scam in West Bengal.

Breaking her silence, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Monday said that she does not support corruption by any of the party leaders.

The West Bengal CM while breaking her silence over the entire development related to her cabinet minister’s arrest by the ED said that she does not support wrong doing. Distancing herself from Partha Chatterjee, she said that the BJP is wrong if thinks that it can break my party using agencies.
