As a message to the future Congress president, Rahul Gandhi said, “Remember you represent the vision of India.”
New Delhi: Amid his Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the ‘one person, one post’ rule is expected to be followed in the party. This comes ahead of the Congress presidential polls.
Addressing a press conference in Kerala, Gandhi said, “What we had decided in Udaipur (one person, one post) is a commitment of the Congress party and I expect that commitment will be maintained.” Gandhi was referring to the Congress president polls.
His claim came in the backdrop of Congress election authority chief Madhusudan Mistry who on Wednesday said, “In our (party) constitution, there is nothing like one man, one post. Anyone can contest the election.” Mistry was reacting to news about Shashi Tharoor and Ashok Gehlot announcing their willingness to run for the post.

As a message to the future Congress president, Rahul Gandhi said, “Remember you represent the vision of India…the Congress president post is not just an organisational position, it is an ideological post and a belief system.”
Asked if he would give in to the pressure from the state units on becoming the Congress chief, Gandhi said, “I have made my position clear and I will stick to it.” Gandhi does not want to run for the post of Congress president.
On Bharat Jodo Yatra, Gandhi said, “We are fighting a machine that has captured the institutional framework of this country, that has unlimited money and ability to buy, pressurise and threaten people. The outcome of that is what you’ve seen in Goa.” Recently, eight of 11 MLAs of Congress in Goa quit the party and joined the BJP. The move led to the collapse of the party in Goa.
