In a significant anti-Maoist operation, 12 Maoists were killed on Wedneday in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district. The operation, which lasted over six hours, also resulted in the recovery of several automatic weapons.
The Maharashtra Police launched the operation around 10 am after receiving intelligence about nearly 15 Maoists camping near Vandoli village, close to the Chhattisgarh border. Seven C-60 police teams, led by the Deputy SP, entered the dense forests to carry out the mission.

A heavy exchange of fire commenced in the afternoon and continued intermittently between the Maoists and the security forces until late evening. During the operation, a sub-inspector and a jawan from the C-60 unit sustained bullet injuries. Both are reported to be out of danger and have been evacuated to Nagpur for further treatment.
Among the recovered weapons were seven automatic firearms, including three AK-47s, two INSAS rifles, one carbine, and an SLR.

Notably, DVCM Laxman Atram, also known as Vishal Atram, the in-charge of the Tipagad Dalam, was identified among the deceased Maoists. The identities of the other 11 killed are yet to be confirmed, and police have initiated an area search to gather more information.
This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Maharashtra Police to combat Maoist activities in the region.
