An official said two vendors have been arrested by police in Mumbai after a 19-year-old guy died from consuming “chicken shawarma” that he had purchased from them.

According to the official on Tuesday, the boy, named Prathamesh Bhokse, purchased Shawarma from the accused’s stalls in the Trombay area on May 3.

Bhokse visited a neighboring municipal hospital on May 4 to receive medical attention after experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting.

He became ill again after getting home, so on May 5, his family drove him to the civic body-run KEM Hospital.

He was sent home by a doctor after receiving treatment, according to the Trombay police station officer.

The following day, when his condition deteriorated, the man was brought to the hospital once more and evaluated by a physician. This time, after the examination, he was admitted.

According to the official, the hospital’s officials chose to file a police report on the incident, and under sections 273 (selling of noxious food or drink) and 336 (act endangering the life or personal safety of others), the police filed a FIR against the unknown persons.

He added that the man passed away on Monday and never fully recovered from his illness. The official stated that once the two food vendors, Anand Kamble and Ahmed Sheikh, were taken into custody by the police, they were accused of violating several IPC sections, including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
