Maldives: In a shocking incident, Environment Minister of Maldives Ali Solih was attacked by a knife-wielding man on Monday in the capital city Male. The incident took place in afternoon in Hulhumale area when the minister was on his bike. Moments after the violent incident, the attacker was arrested by the local police. The minister was taken to the hospital for further treatment.
According to the local media reports, the attacker was reciting some verses of the Quran before launching the attack on Solih’s neck from behind. Though knife missed the neck but slit part of his left arm. The minister immediately got off the bike and ran away to save his like from the attacker.
Ali Solih is a senior minister in Maldives government and holds portfolio of the Minister of State for Environment, Climate Change and Technology. He is a leader and spokesperson of Maldives’ Jumhooree Party, a coalition partner of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). Maldives President Ibrahim Solih belongs to Maldivian Democratic Party. Both Jumhooree Party and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) run government in the island nation.
