Kolkata: The Association of Shipping Interests in Calcutta (ASIC) recently released its long-awaited commemorative publication, ‘Horizons’, marking the association’s illustrious 50-year journey.
Established as the oldest association of shipping companies in Eastern India, ASIC’s milestone achievement is now immortalised in a captivating volume.
In a statement, the ASIC said, “Originally slated for release in 2021, the publication faced delays due to the unprecedented challenges posed by the (Covid-19) global pandemic. However, undeterred by setbacks, the ASIC commenced work on ‘Horizons’ in December 2022, culminating in its completion in December 2023.”
The unveiling ceremony, held on March 16, 2024, at Raj Bhavan, witnessed the presence of the West Bengal Governor, Dr C V Ananda Bose. Others who joined the event were Asok Janakiram, President of the ASIC and MD of Pennon Shipping, Arup Bandhu Guha, Senior VP of Samsara Shipping, Subrata Chowdhury, VP of ASIC, and Gautam Chakraborti, former Adviser Security and Heritage to Kolkata Port and Honorary Editor-in- Chief of the Commemorative.
‘Horizons’ offers readers an immersive journey into the maritime world with insightful interviews, articles from eminent personalities, and a treasure trove of information and trivia spanning Kolkata’s rich maritime history and its venerable 150-year-old port.
The statement added, “Adding to its allure are messages from dignitaries, including the Honorable Prime Minister, Minister of Shipping, Ministers of State for Shipping, and even the legendary BigB, whose early career began as a shipping executive in Calcutta . All these and more add a unique dimension to the publication.”
The Association of Shipping Interests in Calcutta (ASIC) is the oldest association of shipping companies in Eastern India, dedicated to promoting the interests of the maritime industry and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
With a rich history spanning over five decades, the ASIC continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the maritime landscape of the region.
