As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva program (September 14 – October 2, 2024), hundreds of students at Model College Rajmahal, under the Sahibganj district, organized a cleanliness awareness cycle rally on September 29, 2024. The rally began at Kazigaon Shiva Temple and concluded at the college campus, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness as a service to society.
Following the rally, dozens of students and intellectuals gathered at the college campus, where Uday Kumar Sinha, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Rajmahal, administered a cleanliness oath. In his address, he urged the students to internalize the message of cleanliness, stating, “This cleanliness oath should not be limited to just an oath, but should be a part of our daily lives. We must spread the message that cleanliness is service to the people.”
Dr. Ranjit Kumar Singh, Principal of Model College Rajmahal, presided over the program and delivered the slogan, “Cleanliness is the basic mantra of life.” He encouraged everyone to embrace cleanliness as a way of life and urged students to raise awareness of hygiene and cleanliness within their villages.

The event coordinator, Prajapati Prakash Baba, pledged to boycott plastic in support of the Swachhata Abhiyan, with a vision for a plastic-free society. From the same platform, Swachhata District Coordinator Zeenat Parveen shared her thoughts on cleanliness, saying, “God resides in cleanliness, and cleanliness is the foundation of a healthy life.” Teacher Praveer Kumar emphasized the importance of preserving nature and the environment, underscoring the link between cleanliness and ecological conservation.
Several faculty members and local authorities contributed to the event’s success, including Dr. Ramzan Ali, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Vivek Mahato, teachers Anand Mahato, Adityaraj Thakur, and employees Mohan Kumar, Sumit Saha, Prakash, Bablu, and Karamu Mahato. District Swachhata Samiti members Rocky Pandit and Md. Shahazuddin were also instrumental in making the program a success.
In a practical demonstration of the event’s commitment to cleanliness, tree plantation drives were carried out in Rampura village. Professors, students, and staff participated in Shramdaan (voluntary labor) in both the Gram Panchayat and the college campus, reinforcing the Swachhata program’s message of collective responsibility for a cleaner, greener environment.
The Swachhata Hi Seva initiative continues to gather momentum as part of the larger Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, with activities planned until October 2, culminating in the commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
