Hitting out at South Korea, Kim Yo Jong said “South Korean puppets” are sending “dirty objects” across the border in leaflets carried by balloons. Revealing about Kim Jong Un’s illness is an unusual thing, probably to show that he shared the struggle of the people.
Kim Yo Jong said her brother “could not lie down for even a moment because of his concerns for the people”. Kim Jong Un’s health has for a long time sparked speculations and his public appearances are closely tracked for insights into the autocratic and secretive regime.
Last month, Kim Jong Un had gone without an appearance in the state media for 17 days. However, he often goes out of view in summers to spend time at his seaside mansion and megayacht.
The country has not called thousands of fever cases Covid and it is speculated that North Korea lacks enough supply of test kits. North Korea has refused to accept vaccines from outside and reports said planned shipments have been put on hold because of its objections to rules from Covax, a World Health Organization-backed body.
The country’s escalating rhetoric against Seoul could resume military provocations that have slowed down in the recent months, possibility due to the outbreak of the virus.
