Ranchi: Moments after being asked to strip by a teacher, a Class IX student set herself on fire in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur over the humiliation. The teacher suspected her of carrying chits inside her uniform.
The girl was rushed to a hospital after she set herself on fire and according to sources, she is currently in a critical condition. Sources in the hospital said the girl suffered 80% burn injuries.
In her statement to the police, the student said the teacher humiliated her and made her remove her clothes in a room beside the classroom where an examination was on. She told the police that the teacher suspected that she was carrying chits and although she strongly resisted, the teacher “forced” her to strip.
The police said the teacher has been booked and the matter is being looked into. The police said that the girl’s mother told them that her daughter set herself on fire shortly after coming back from the school as she could not bear the humiliation.
Meanwhile, the incident has triggered a massive outrage among the locals. Protestors hit the streets to protest against the alleged incident and some of them told the media that they would soon visit the school and seek strong action against the teacher.
