Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday officially launched the State Employee Health Insurance Scheme, offering a significant healthcare benefit to government employees across Jharkhand. The inauguration took place at the Jharkhand Assembly auditorium, where the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring financial security and comprehensive healthcare for state employees.
The scheme follows the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme, which provided economic stability to retired employees. With this new initiative, the state government will cover the complete medical expenses of government employees, eliminating the financial burden associated with healthcare treatments.
Rising Health Concerns Due to Lifestyle Changes
Speaking at the event, CM Soren highlighted how evolving lifestyles and work conditions have led to a surge in health issues.
“Changes in dietary habits and living standards have resulted in widespread illnesses, including common conditions like blood sugar and high blood pressure. Expensive medical treatments in private hospitals create financial stress for families. Our government is committed to strengthening the healthcare system to provide the best possible medical facilities at minimal cost,” he stated.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive cashless medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in any government-approved hospital across India. (Specially arranged)
Acknowledging the challenges of being a resource-constrained state, CM Soren emphasized the government’s determination to improve Jharkhand’s healthcare infrastructure.

“Jharkhand faces many obstacles due to its economic conditions, but our government is working diligently to overcome these hurdles. The COVID-19 pandemic tested our capabilities, and through effective management, we successfully controlled the crisis, gaining global recognition for our efforts,” Soren said.
Inclusive Approach to Governance
The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to treating all citizens equitably. “Whether farmers, laborers, or any other community, our administration stands with everyone. For the state’s overall development, we must work collectively, and our government is advancing strategically in this direction.”
The State Employee Health Insurance Scheme will be implemented in two phases:
Phase 1: Effective from March 1, 2025, covering all active state government employees.
Phase 2: Effective from May 1, 2025, extending benefits to other eligible categories.
Who Will Benefit from the Scheme?
The scheme is designed to support current state government employees, members of the state Assembly, retired employees and family pensioners, former state assembly members, serving and retired officers of All India Services, employees of various state boards, corporations, institutions, and organizations, university and college faculty members and non-teaching staff and registered advocates.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries will receive cashless medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in any government-approved hospital across India. In cases of severe medical conditions, coverage will extend to Rs 10 lakh, and additional expenses can be met through a corpus fund. The scheme also includes an air ambulance service for critical medical emergencies.
The launch of this health insurance initiative marks a major step toward improving Jharkhand’s healthcare accessibility and financial security for government employees. With this move, the state government continues to prioritize citizen welfare and ensure comprehensive health benefits for its workforce.
