Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Friday at the Chief Minister’s Residential Office in Ranchi. During the meeting, senior officials from the Jharkhand state government, the Ministry of Coal, and subsidiaries of Coal India discussed measures for the improvement of the coal and mining sector.
The discussions centered on crucial issues related to coal mines in Jharkhand. Chief Minister Hemant Soren presented the state government’s stance on coal mining matters, while the Union Coal Minister briefed him about the challenges being faced in coal mining projects.
The Chief Minister emphasized that resolving coal mining issues is possible only through mutual cooperation between the central and state governments. He added that joint efforts are necessary to take the mining sector forward.
Agreement on Positive Steps for Mining and Local Development
In the presence of the Chief Minister and the Union Coal Minister, officials held an in-depth meeting where several key topics were discussed.
These included royalty on minerals, rehabilitation of displaced families, employment and compensation, providing jobs to locals in mining and nearby areas, returning land after completion of mining work, implementing safety standards to prevent accidents caused by illegal mining, resolving obstacles in operationalizing coal projects, and effective utilization of DMFT and CSR funds.

The meeting concluded with consensus on taking positive steps to address these issues for the benefit of the sector as well as local communities.
