Israel Iran War: In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, Israeli forces launched airstrikes on central Beirut in the early hours of Thursday, killing at least six people.
The strike followed a day of intense clashes between Israeli troops and Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon. According to Reuters, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that 15 Hezbollah members were killed in a targeted strike on a municipality building in southern Lebanon.
In another development, three missiles struck the southern suburb of Dahiyeh, a known Hezbollah stronghold. The strikes occurred where Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was reportedly killed last week, with loud explosions echoing throughout the region, according to Lebanese security officials. The situation remains volatile, with further strikes anticipated.
Impact on Civilians and International Concern
The conflict’s toll on civilians continues to mount as bombings persist in Lebanon. Health officials have reported multiple injuries following Israel’s strikes.

One of the victims was Kamel Ahmad Jawad, an American from Dearborn, Michigan, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike. Jawad’s death was confirmed by his daughter, and Democratic US Representative Rashida Tlaib’s office stated that the congresswoman was in touch with the family, noting that Jawad was one of her constituents and a US citizen.
India’s Stance Amidst Rising Tensions
India has closely monitored the escalating conflict, urging for restraint and the protection of civilians. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during his meetings with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington DC, called for “restraint by all concerned” and emphasized the need to avoid further casualties.

India has also advised its nationals to “avoid all non-essential travel to Iran,” signaling concerns over the growing regional instability.
Potential Trade Disruptions Looming
The conflict’s widening scope has sparked fears of significant trade disruptions, particularly in the Red Sea, a critical route for global shipping. Hezbollah’s close ties with the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have been responsible for a substantial number of attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, heighten these concerns. The risk of such disruptions has escalated as the conflict shows no signs of de-escalation.
