The strain, combining two sub-variants of the Omicron version of the COVID-19 virus – dubbed BA.1 and BA.2 – was recorded during PCR tests on two passengers arriving at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport.
New Delhi: Israel has reported new Covid variant as two patients reportedly suffered after mild symptomps of fever, headache and dystrophy but do not require a special medical response, said the Health Ministry of Israel on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the strain, combining two sub-variants of the Omicron version of the COVID-19 virus – dubbed BA.1 and BA.2 – was recorded during PCR tests on two passengers arriving at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport. It further said that at this stage, they are not worried about it leading to serious cases.
Israel’s pandemic response chief, Salman Zarka, also played down the risks. “The phenomenon of combined variants is well known,” Zarka told Army Radio. “At this stage, we are not worried about it leading to serious cases”.
Israel had earlier recorded the first case of “Florona” disease, a double infection of COVID-19 and Influenza. According to reports, the first case of Florona was detected after a pregnant woman was infected with the disease. The woman, who was infected with florona, was not vaccinated as per a report by an Israeli newspaper.
Over four million people out of Israel’s population of 9.2 million have received three coronavirus vaccine shots.
