In an electrifying clash at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerged victorious against Punjab Kings (PBKS), thanks to Nitish Kumar Reddy’s brilliant innings.
Reddy’s aggressive knock of 64 runs from 37 balls helped SRH recover from a precarious position and set a competitive target of 183 runs for PBKS.
After being put into bat by PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan, SRH found themselves struggling at 39/3. However, Reddy’s explosive partnership with Abdul Samad turned the tide as they added 50 runs in just 20 balls.
This partnership propelled SRH to a challenging total of 182/9. Despite a late surge from PBKS’s Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma, SRH managed to defend the target in a nail-biting finish.
Chasing 183, PBKS faced early setbacks as they lost three wickets within the Powerplay overs. Captain Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck early blows, leaving PBKS reeling at 27/3.
Despite partnerships between Sikandar Raza, Sam Curran, and Shashank Singh, PBKS kept losing wickets at crucial intervals, increasing the required run rate.
With 67 runs needed off 24 balls, Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma unleashed a flurry of boundaries, bringing the equation down to 29 runs off the last over. However, some nervy moments ensued as SRH’s Jaydev Unadkat held his nerve to secure a two-run victory for his team.
Earlier in the match, PBKS got off to a strong start with early wickets, but Reddy’s aggressive batting shifted the momentum in SRH’s favor. Despite late wickets, SRH managed to post a competitive total, ultimately securing a thrilling win.
With this victory, SRH strengthened its position in the TATA IPL 2024 tournament, while PBKS will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches.
