Swati Maliwal, a prominent figure within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has stepped forward to file a complaint against Bibhav Kumar, an aide to party chief Arvind Kejriwal, following days of silence over an alleged harassment incident. The controversy has sparked a heated political feud between Delhi’s ruling AAP and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

After being reportedly assaulted by Bibhav Kumar at the Chief Minister’s residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines area, Maliwal has now submitted a statement to the Delhi Police. The incident, which occurred on Monday, prompted Maliwal to undergo a medical examination at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences.

In a social media post, Swati Maliwal expressed the challenges she faced in recent days, emphasizing the need for appropriate action and requesting that the incident not be politicized, particularly amidst the ongoing national election.

Delhi Police have taken cognizance of the complaint and have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Bibhav Kumar, including charges of assault, criminal intimidation, and outraging a woman’s modesty. This development comes after a two-member police team met with Maliwal to record her statement.

The BJP has seized upon the incident to criticize the AAP and Kejriwal, accusing them of shielding Kumar. Amidst demands for Kejriwal’s resignation, AAP leaders have defended Maliwal and emphasized their support for her. However, the BJP has questioned the timing of their response, highlighting a delay in addressing the issue.

The political fallout from the alleged assault has also drawn reactions from other parties, with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressing solidarity with Maliwal. However, further action on the matter has been left to the discretion of the AAP.

The incident adds a layer of tension to the already charged political atmosphere in Delhi, especially as the city gears up for the Lok Sabha election. With Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats set to vote in the fifth phase, scheduled for May 25, the outcome of this controversy could have implications for the electoral landscape.
