According to reports, around 6.03 pm Thursday, the “supersonic flying object” had taken off from Sirsa in Haryana and was flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet at a higher speed than sound.
New Delhi: Hours after Pakistani media reported that an Indian missile breached its airspace and landed on its soil, the Indian Ministry of Defence “regretted” the “accidental firing” of the missile.
In a statement the ministry wrote, “On 9 March 2022, in the course of a routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile. The Government of India has taken a serious view and ordered a high-level Court of Enquiry.”
It added, “It is learnt that the missile landed in an area of Pakistan. While the incident is deeply regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident.”
According to reports, around 6.03 pm Thursday, the “supersonic flying object” had taken off from Sirsa in Haryana and was flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet at a higher speed than sound. While it was targeted towards the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan, after about 80 km, the missile changed its course and entered at least 124 km deep into Pakistan.
According to reports, Pakistan had summoned the Indian envoy and had conveyed its “strong protest” and demanded an investigation into the incident and said a copy of the probe should be shared with Pakistan.
According to PTI, the Pakistan Foreign Office said, “The Indian diplomat was conveyed that the imprudent launch of the flying object not only caused damage to civilian property but also put at risk human lives on ground.”
Although there was no human casualty, the missile hit a wall and perhaps damaged it. Meanwhile, there was no information on the type of missile it was.
