Ahmedabad: In a joint operation at sea, the Indian Navy and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) intercepted a suspicious Iranian vessel carrying 3,300 kilogram of drugs off the coast of Gujarat on Tuesday.
The operation was based on intelligence gathered by Indian Navy’s maritime surveillance aircraft and corroborated by inputs from the NCB.
The seized contraband included 3,089 kilogram of charas, 158 kilogram of Methamphetamine and 25 kilogram of Morphine. The mission-deployed Indian Navy warship, upon receiving intelligence, swiftly intercepted the suspicious dhow enroute to Indian waters.
Indian Navy units successfully tracked and intercepted the vessel at sea, conducting boarding operations that led to the largest seizure of narcotics in recent times. Following the operation, the vessel was towed by the Indian Navy warship to the nearest Indian port.

The collaborative efforts between the Indian Navy and the NCB underscore a strategic partnership aimed at disrupting illegal narcotics smuggling routes, particularly those originating from the Makran coast and flowing towards various countries in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
This successful joint mission demonstrates the strong commitment and resolve of the Indian Navy in preventing the use of seas for illicit activities, especially within India’s maritime neighbourhood. By working in tandem with law enforcement agencies like the NCB, the Indian Navy continues to uphold maritime security and combat transnational crimes effectively.
The apprehension of the suspicious vessel and the seizure of such a substantial quantity of contraband serve as a significant blow to illicit drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
