New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his full respect for the Supreme Court ruling on electoral bonds during an interaction at the India Today Conclave on Friday. He reiterated that the electoral bond scheme was implemented with the aim of eradicating black money from politics, emphasizing its significance in this regard.
However, he further opined that rather than being discontinued entirely, electoral bonds should have been subject to improvement. He emphasized the importance of accepting the decision rendered by the Supreme Court while also advocating for measures to enhance the effectiveness of the electoral bond system.
Additionally, the Union Home Minister highlighted the BJP’s concept of “one nation, one election,” which he attributed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP. He emphasized the potential benefits of implementing this concept, including expedited development and the cessation of recurring expenses associated with frequent elections.
In a candid address, Shah took a swipe at the Congress, alleging that leaders of the opposition party traditionally pocketed a significant portion of political donations in cash. He claimed that out of a donation of Rs 1,100, only Rs 100 would be officially recorded under the party’s name, while the remaining Rs 1,000 would end up in the personal coffers of the Congress leaders.

Highlighting the dynamics of political funding, Shah refuted claims that the electoral bonds system disproportionately benefited the BJP. He disclosed figures showing the distribution of electoral bonds, revealing that the BJP received approximately Rs 6,000 crore out of the total Rs 20,000 crore issued.
He pointed out significant sums received by other parties, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Congress, BRS (Bharatiya Rashtriya Samithi), BJD (Biju Janata Dal), and DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam).
Addressing concerns about the frequency of elections, Shah reiterated the BJP’s proposal for “one nation, one election.” He argued that the current system leads to excessive expenditure and hampers developmental projects due to the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct.
Regarding the political landscape in Bihar, Shah assured that seat-sharing negotiations within the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) would be finalized in the coming week. He expressed confidence in the NDA’s prospects in the state, underlining unity within the coalition under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Turning to Delhi’s political scenario, Shah dismissed concerns about the Congress-AAP alliance, citing the BJP’s strong performance in the capital. He asserted that the BJP’s dominance in Delhi, where it secured over 50 percent of the votes in all the constituencies, would continue to grow.
Shah echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s optimism, predicting a landslide victory for the BJP and the NDA in the upcoming election, with the BJP expected to secure over 370 seats and the NDA over 400 seats.
