New Delhi: In two days from now, thanks to yet another western disturbance, parts of northern India is likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday morning.
In a statement, it said, “A fresh Western Disturbance likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from February 26.”
Under the influence of the western disturbance, the IMD predicted, “Isolated light rainfall/snowfall very likely over Western Himalayan Region on 24th and 25th February. Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning very likely at isolated places over Jammu Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on February 26; over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on February 26 and 27.”

In northeast India, the IMD predicted, “Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall/snowfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 24 and 25 February.”
Meanwhile, the weather department also said, “A cyclonic circulation lies over south Telangana and a trough runs from this cyclonic circulation to south Tamil Nadu and another cyclonic circulation lies over south Chhattisgarh in lower tropospheric levels. The anti-cyclone in the lower levels over the Bay of Bengal is likely to strengthen during next few days.”

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, the IMD said, “Isolated light to moderate rainfall very likely over West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand during 24th-27th February. Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh during February 26 to 28. Hailstorm activity is also very likely at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand on February 26.”
