IMD predicts snowfall, rain and thunderstorm in these states over next 5 days

IMD weather forecast: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted a fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall or snowfall along with thunderstorms and lightning over Western Himalayan Region Tuesday and Wednesday, February 20 and 21.

According to a bulletin issued by the IMD a Western Disturbance, which is being seen as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and the neighbourhood, is leading to the conditions.

Here’s a list of places that will see rainfall and snowfall in the coming days

Heavy rainfall or snowfall is very likely at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on February 20, 2024 (Tuesday).

Hailstorm activity very likely at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Tuesday.

Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday and East Uttar Pradesh between Tuesday and Thursday.

Isolated light or moderate rainfall is also likely over north Rajasthan on Tuesday and Wednesday and over northwest Madhya Pradesh between Tuesday and Friday.

The weather department also predicted isolated thunderstorms, lightning with gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan on Tuesday and on Tuesday and Wednesday over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. East Uttar Pradesh may witness similar conditions between Tuesday and Thursday.

Weather forecast for Northeast India

The IMD has predicted fairly widespread to widespread light or moderate rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorms and lightning over Northeast India between Tuesday and Friday. Isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday.

In Assam and Meghalaya, similar conditions may be witnessed on Thursday while on Thursday and Friday, isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall is likely in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

In its daily bulletin, the IMD said, “Isolated thunderstorms, lightning with gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph) very likely over Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 21st February, 2024.”

IMD weather forecast Weather prediction for Sikkim, West Bengal and Bihar

Isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is very likely over West Bengal and Sikkim and Bihar on Wednesday and Thursday, the IMD said.

It added that rainfall is very likely over the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Wednesday and Friday.

“Isolated thunderstorms, lightning with gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph) very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Bihar on 21st; over Gangetic West Bengal on 22nd February, 2024,” the IMD bulletin read.
