The announcement came barely days after Kumar returned from his Delhi trip where he met several Opposition leaders.
Patna: In a major announcement, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said all backward states in the country will be granted a special status if non-BJP parties form the government after the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
The announcement came barely days after Kumar returned from his Delhi trip where he met several Opposition leaders and said he would attempt to bring all the parties on one platform.
“The BJP is trying to capture the country and if everyone fights the elections together, then the picture will be different. We are talking to all,” he had told the media in Delhi.
Kumar met Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar in the national capital. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Kumar said, “We will build a main front, not a Third Front.” Kumar also exuded confidence that his talks with the Opposition leaders will be positive.
Reiterating that he has no personal choice, Kumar says he wishes all Opposition leaders meet and choose a leader. A close aide of Kumar said the chief minister is trying to explain all Opposition leaders the need to put up a united fight against the BJP.
Later, sounding the poll bugle in a way, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, other leaders and herself will come together to put up a united Opposition front for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Banerjee said, “All of us will be in one side and BJP on the other. I, Nitish Kumar, Hemant Soren and others will come together for the 2024 polls. The BJP’s arrogance of 300 seats will be its nemesis. ‘Khela Hobe’ in 2024.”
