Washington: In a shocking case of racial slur, a viral video shows four Indian-American women being racially abused and hit by a Mexican-American woman in Texas, United States of America. The woman is heard using expletives and accusing Indians of “ruining” America.
The shocking incident took place on Wednesday night at a parking lot in Texas’s Dallas. The woman, identified as Esmeralda Upton, who was later arrested, is heard saying, “I hate you Indian. All these Indians come to America because they want a better life.” Upton adds, “You Indians are everywhere”, and hurls abuses at the four Indian-American women.
The video has sent shockwaves across the Indian-American community. The video also shows Upton physically attacking at least two of the Indian women.

She is further heard saying, “Everywhere I go, you Indians are everywhere…If life was so great in India, why are you here?” She then suddenly starts assaulting the four Indian women.
The Plano Police Detectives arrested Upton of Plano on Thursday afternoon. The woman has been charged with assault, bodily injury and terroristic threats and is being held on a total bond amount of USD 10,000.
The incident is currently being investigated by the Plano Police Department’s Crime Against Persons Unit as a case of hate crime. Several groups in North Texas with ties to the South Asian American community condemned the attack and said they were relieved that Upton was arrested.
President of the India Association of North Texas Urmeet Juneja said he thinks North Texas has largely been a welcoming and safe place for people who are of South Asian descent.
The Dallas Morning News quoted him as saying, “We are happy that law enforcement has taken swift action and arrested this person. Still, we also think that they should conduct a fair investigation and get to the bottom of the matter and take this hate crime investigation to its conclusion.”
