Hailstorm likely to hit these states on Wednesday, says IMD

Hailstorm is very likely to hit several parts of India on Tuesday, the IMD said. It also predicted rainfall and snowfall in some places.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted high chances of hailstorm in parts of north India, West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar.

In its bulletin, the IMD said, “Hailstorm activity very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand on 21st February (Tuesday).”

It added, “Hailstorm activity very likely at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh on 21st February.”

In fact, similar activity is also expected to hit isolated places over the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Bihar on Tuesday.

Hailstorm Rainfall and snowfall prediction

The IMD in a statement said, “Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall also likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 21st and 22nd; over Assam and Meghalaya on 22nd and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 22nd February.”

It added, ”Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning likely over Bihar and with gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) West Bengal and Sikkim on 21st and 22nd and over Jharkhand on 21st February.”

Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on February 22, the IMD said.

The statement added, “Isolated light/moderate rainfall is very likely accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, north Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan on 21st and 22nd and scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall very likely accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning over Uttar Pradesh on 21st and 22nd February.”
