New Delhi: An armed man opened fire at a Russian kindergarten on Tuesday reportedly killing at least four people, including two children, the regional authorities told the Interfax news agency on Tuesday. The incident took place in Russia’s central Ulyanovsk region and more details are awaited.
“We confirm the shooting and that there are four bodies,” a representative of the regional authorities reportedly said, while a source in the law enforcement department told TASS, a media agency, that two children have been killed in the attack.
“According to preliminary information there was a shooting in a kindergarten. As a result, two children, a teacher and the attacker died,” the head of the Ulyanovsk region information department, Dmitry Kamal, told AFP.
According to the Telegram channel called Baza, which is known to have sources in Russian law enforcement, the attacker walked inside the kindergarten during the nap time with an Izh-27 double-barrelled shotgun. There was no guard on duty. While a former governor of the region said a young teacher was killed and another injured in the attack, the two others killed were reportedly children said a news agency.
Reports also suggest that the gunman has killed himself after carrying out the attack.
