“Three generations of my family have served the Congress party for the last 50 years. I have broken the ties with the party (Congress) over issues related to nationalism, unity and brotherhood in Punjab,” Sunil Jakhar said after joining the BJP.

New Delhi: Days after quitting the Congress, former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sunil Jakhar on Thursday joined the BJP in Delhi in the presence of the saffron party’s national president J P Nadda.
“Three generations of my family have served the Congress party for the last 50 years. I have broken the ties with the party (Congress) over issues related to nationalism, unity and brotherhood in Punjab,” Sunil Jakhar said after joining the BJP.
“I’m fighting for Punjab’s brotherhood. The work which bullets of AK-47 were not able to do, they (Congress) did it with their tongue that person from a particular community can’t be elected (as the Chief Minister). They not only insulted Hindu brotherhood but also Sikh brotherhood,” said Sunil Jakhar.
Inducting Sunil Jakhar into the party folds, Nadda said, “I welcome Sunil Jakhar to the BJP. He is an experienced political leader who made a name for himself during his political career. I am confident he will play a big role in strengthening the party in Punjab.”
“BJP is emerging as the number one nationalist force in Punjab. Hence, it is necessary for all the leaders having a nationalist ideology to join the BJP to strengthen the party for a stronger Punjab,” Nadda said.
Sources in the BJP said Sunil Jakhar maybe nominated for the Rajya Sabha and given responsibilities in Punjab, including, getting more disgruntled Congress leaders to join the saffron party.
Jakhar, who was stripped from his posts by the Congress earlier and replaced by Navjot Singh Sidhu, had quit from the Grand Old Party on Saturday through a Facebook live.
