A police complaint has been lodged against Kalicharan Banerjee, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, for allegedly misusing the name of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. According to sources, Kalicharan is accused of using Banerjee’s name to deceive people.
Multiple complaints regarding Kalicharan’s actions have reportedly reached Abhishek Banerjee’s office, prompting a formal complaint at the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station. However, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed in the matter so far, as confirmed by officials.
Nature of Allegations Unclear
While a police complaint has been made, specific details about how Kalicharan Banerjee misused the TMC leader’s name remain unclear. Authorities have yet to disclose his alleged objectives or the method used to exploit Banerjee’s identity for personal gain.
Reacting to the accusations against his OSD, Mayor Firhad Hakim expressed surprise. “I have never heard anything like this. I could have been informed about these complaints,” said Hakim, distancing himself from the matter.

Hakim’s reaction suggests that he was unaware of any issues involving Kalicharan Banerjee prior to the complaint being filed.
Second Incident of Misusing Abhishek Banerjee’s Name
This incident marks the second time in recent months that someone has been accused of misusing Abhishek Banerjee’s name. On August 30, 2024, Kolkata Police arrested a man for allegedly duping a businessman by forging the official letterhead of Abhishek Banerjee. In that case, the accused defrauded the businessman of Rs 25 lakh by faking correspondence from Banerjee and other senior West Bengal government officials.
