Rifle Recovered, Shooter Fled After Attack
Investigators confirmed they had recovered a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle” in a wooded area near the scene. Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said the gunman leapt from a building after firing the fatal shot before fleeing into a nearby neighborhood.
Officials added that two individuals were briefly taken into custody after the incident but later released, with investigators concluding they had “no current ties to the shooting.”

The FBI also said video footage shows the shooter in action. Authorities have not commented on a possible motive.
Charlie Kirk’s Death Sparks Outcry
Video from the scene captured the moment Kirk, 31, was struck in the neck during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University, about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. He was rushed to a hospital but later died, an announcement made public by President Donald Trump, who called the assassination a “dark moment for America.”
Kirk was a close ally of Trump and co-founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organization. His visit to Utah was intended as the first in a series of campus events planned for the fall.
