Faridabad Dowry Death | Woman’s Body Found In Concrete Pit | In a chilling discovery, the decomposed body of a 24-year-old woman named Tanu was exhumed from a 10-foot-deep ditch in a residential street in Faridabad, Haryana, on Friday. The body was found buried beneath a recently constructed cement slab adjacent to her in-laws’ house in Roshan Nagar, prompting a murder investigation.
Tanu, a resident of Shikohabad in Uttar Pradesh, had been married for less than two years to Arun, who lived with his family in Faridabad. According to police officials, four people — Tanu’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and a close relative — are currently in police custody and are being interrogated.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Usha Kundu confirmed the recovery of the body and said, “After receiving the complaint a week ago, the police took immediate action. The body has been recovered from the pit. Four people have been detained and interrogation is underway. The matter is being thoroughly investigated.”
Sister’s shocking allegation in Faridabad dowry death case
Tanu’s sister Preeti has accused the in-laws of mental and physical harassment, claiming that the abuse began shortly after her sister’s wedding in 2023. “They demanded gold jewellery and money, and when we couldn’t meet all their expectations, the torture began,” she alleged.

According to Preeti, Tanu had returned to her maternal home just months into the marriage due to mistreatment and stayed there for over a year. “When we finally sent her back, the torture resumed. They wouldn’t even allow her to speak to us on phone calls,” Preeti said.
She also revealed that the in-laws claimed Tanu had run away from home on April 23, but her suspicions were aroused much earlier, on April 9, when repeated phone calls to Tanu went unanswered. The family filed a police complaint, but Preeti alleged that no substantial action was taken initially.
Neighbours Raise Doubts Over Suspicious Pit
Neighbours confirmed that Tanu’s father-in-law had dug a pit outside the home in April, allegedly to install a drainage system. “Everyone saw the pit being dug. He said it was for dirty water. But the daughter-in-law was never seen again after that,” one neighbour said. The ditch was soon covered with concrete, raising further suspicion.
