As the US Senate pushes forward with a marathon session to pass President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and immigration bill—dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill”—tech billionaire Elon Musk has issued a fierce warning to lawmakers: reject the legislation or face political consequences.
The bill, which aims to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts by $4.5 trillion, bolster military funding, and finance mass deportations and strict border measures, could increase the national debt by more than $3.3 trillion over the next decade. It also proposes cuts to subsidised healthcare, potentially affecting millions of low-income Americans.
“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame,” Musk posted on X, formerly Twitter. “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”
‘America Party’ on the Horizon If Bill Passes, Warns Musk
Musk, who previously served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and was a close advisor to Trump until May, has now openly turned against the administration’s latest fiscal agenda. He warned that if the bill is passed, he will launch a new political force—the “America Party”—as an alternative to what he called the “Democrat-Republican uniparty.”
Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?

“If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day. Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE,” he declared.

Musk has been especially vocal about the bill’s potential impact on employment and economic stability. “The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country! Utterly insane and destructive,” he wrote in a separate post.
The billionaire’s barrage of criticism has sparked a public spat with Trump, culminating in a now-deleted post by Musk referencing a rumored connection between Trump and the Epstein files—escalating tensions between the two once-allied figures.
Senate Divided as July 4 Deadline Looms
With the Senate under a razor-thin Republican majority, the vote on the 940-page bill remains uncertain. While Trump maintains strong control over the party, internal dissent is growing, particularly in the House of Representatives where several GOP lawmakers are signaling they may oppose the measure.
Democrats are unanimously against the bill, calling it fiscally irresponsible and socially harmful.

Republicans hope to pass the legislation before Independence Day celebrations begin, though progress in the Senate has been slow, with only 14 of dozens of required amendment votes completed in the first seven hours of debate.
If passed, the bill would mark a major legislative victory for Trump and significantly reshape America’s economic and immigration landscape. But with opposition mounting from both political factions and influential voices like Musk, the path ahead remains anything but certain.
