US President Donald Trump has been officially nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, effectively ending what he termed the “12 Day War.” The nomination was submitted on June 24 by US Representative Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), who lauded Trump’s “extraordinary and historic role” in defusing the escalating crisis in the Middle East.
“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” Carter wrote in his formal letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Carter Highlights Trump’s Stand Against Iran’s Nuclear Threat
In the letter, Carter emphasised Trump’s leadership, not only in halting the active conflict but also in countering Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
“President Trump also took bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring a nuclear weapon,” Carter stated.
Describing the US President’s diplomacy as embodying the ideals of the Nobel Peace Prize, Carter wrote: “His leadership through the crisis exemplifies the very ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognize: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony.”

Carter concluded the nomination by praising Trump’s “courage and clarity” during the high-stakes diplomatic engagement.
“President Trump demonstrated both, offering the world a rare glimpse of hope… For these reasons, I respectfully submit this nomination for Donald J. Trump, 47th President of the United States, to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.”
Timeline of the Israel-Iran Conflict and Ceasefire
The conflict began just over a week ago when Israel launched a preemptive strike against Iran, citing an imminent nuclear threat from Tehran. This sparked several days of missile exchanges between the two nations.
Over the weekend, the United States entered the conflict, carrying out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, escalating concerns of a wider regional war.
On Monday, June 23, Iran retaliated by launching rockets at a US military base in Qatar. However, Tehran reportedly gave advance notice to both US and Qatari authorities. No casualties were reported.
Later that day, Trump announced a 12-hour ceasefire, to begin overnight on Tuesday, June 24, declaring that the conflict was ending.
