Dhanbad doctor removes 7.5 kg spleen tumor | Jharkhand’s healthcare system has taken a giant leap towards excellence. A remarkable medical feat at Dhanbad Medical College and Hospital has not only brought accolades to the state but also set a potential world records. Dr. Ali Zaid Anwar successfully removed a 7.5 kg spleen tumor from a female patient — a procedure hailed as unprecedented in global medical history.
Globally, the heaviest spleen surgically removed from a female patient so far weighed around 2.5 kg. Dr. Anwar’s surgery surpasses this benchmark by a wide margin. This complex operation is now being submitted for inclusion in both the Guinness Book of World Records and Limca Book of Records, putting Jharkhand on the global medical map.
Minister Irfan Ansari: “This is Jharkhand’s Triumph”
Expressing immense pride, Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari said the achievement is not just that of one doctor, but of the entire health administration and the evolving medical ecosystem in Jharkhand.
“Doctors like Dr. Anwar are the pride of the state. I’ve said before — those who work with honesty and commitment will be recognized and encouraged,” Ansari stated, adding, “Honoring such doctors is my responsibility.”
Dr. Ansari emphasized his zero-tolerance policy for negligence in the healthcare sector. “I’m not just a minister, I consider myself a dedicated health worker. I work day and night to ensure the last person in the state receives quality care,” he said.

He acknowledged that systemic reform takes time but reaffirmed his commitment to support every honest effort while firmly acting against laxity.
A New Medical Identity for Jharkhand
Calling the surgery a historic milestone, Dr. Ansari said the success is a signal that Jharkhand is heading in the right direction. “I am not afraid of criticism — I treat it as an opportunity to improve. This surgery is proof that our systems, though evolving, are achieving world-class outcomes,” he said.
The state’s application for world record recognition, if approved, would mark one of India’s most significant surgical achievements and set a new benchmark in spleen-related medical cases.
This breakthrough cements Jharkhand’s growing reputation as a center of medical excellence, thanks to a combination of strong leadership, accountability-driven administration, and the tireless dedication of frontline doctors.
