‘If I don’t join BJP…’ Atishi’s big claim on ‘threat’ from saffron party

Atishi claimed that the BJP had approached her through a close associate, urging her to defect to their party, with the implicit threat of Enforcement Directorate (ED) action if she refused.

Accusations flew on Tuesday as Delhi minister Atishi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed that four more senior leaders of the party are slated to be arrested within the next two months. She further said the same will happen since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is utilising the central agencies to suppress the AAP.

Atishi claimed that the BJP had approached her through a close associate, urging her to defect to their party, with the implicit threat of Enforcement Directorate (ED) action if she refused.

“The BJP has approached me through someone very close. They have asked me to join the BJP and said this will save my political career. They have threatened that if I don’t switch over, ED (Enforcement Directorate) will arrest me within a month,” Atishi stated to the media.

Alleging a targeted onslaught on the AAP, Atishi said, “First, they put everyone in AAP’s leadership in jail. Satyendra Jain, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and now Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have been arrested. The BJP’s plan is to arrest four more AAP leaders in the next two months. They will arrest me, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Durgesh Pathak and Raghav Chadha.”

Contrary to Atishi’s claims, the BJP dismissed her allegations as unfounded. RP Singh, a party leader, countered, “This is their internal tussle, which is coming out again and again in different forms.”

The exchange of allegations between Atishi and the BJP marks the latest episode in the ongoing feud between AAP and BJP leaders, ignited by Arvind Kejriwal’s recent arrest in connection with a money laundering case linked to Delhi’s defunct liquor policy.

Kejriwal has been remanded to judicial custody until April 15 and transferred to Delhi’s Tihar jail, with the ED asserting his lack of cooperation in the investigation.
