New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has issued his second directive from within the confines of the agency’s lock-up.
The new order, read out by Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, is to provide free medicines and pathological tests at government-run Mohalla clinics.
Bharadwaj emphasised the commitment of Arvind Kejriwal to ensure that no Delhiite suffers due to his incarceration, stating, “Regardless of his physical location, it is imperative that underprivileged individuals receive essential healthcare without hindrance.” He underscored the reliance of countless underprivileged families on government healthcare facilities for medications, some of which are vital for lifelong treatment. Additionally, Bharadwaj highlighted the importance of free blood tests provided by Mohalla clinics and pledged swift action to address any deficiencies in this service.
Despite his detention, Arvind Kejriwal remains dedicated to the welfare of Delhi’s residents, said Bharadwaj. The minister assured that the administration, under Kejriwal’s leadership, will operate seamlessly to minimize any inconvenience faced by the populace.
Earlier, on Sunday, another Delhi minister, Atishi, had read out the initial directive by Arvind Kejriwal, focusing on ensuring adequate water supply and resolving sewer issues in affected areas.
In response to these developments, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari accused the AAP of orchestrating a narrative, alleging that Kejriwal’s arrest hadn’t garnered public sympathy. Tiwari dismissed the AAP’s claims of governance from custody, likening it to running gangs from jail rather than a legitimate government.
The ED custody of Arvind Kejriwal stems from his arrest in connection with a money laundering case linked to Delhi’s now scrapped liquor policy. He joins other AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, who have faced similar charges.
The AAP has vehemently denied the allegations, attributing them to political vendettas orchestrated by the BJP-led central government. Despite his predicament, the party affirms Kejriwal’s unwavering commitment to serving as Chief Minister even while in custody.
