New Delhi: A day after reports of the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) finalising a seat-sharing deal for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the ruling faction in Delhi claimed their party chief Arvind Kejriwal will soon be arrested.

AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj asserted that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would face arrest within the next two to three days and attributed this development to the “anxiety caused to the BJP” by the alliance news.

Notably, the Congress and AAP under the INDIA alliance have agreed to share three and four seats, respectively, in Delhi for the Lok Sabha polls.

Bhardwaj said, “The moment the alliance between AAP and Congress was decided, rumors began circulating about this coalition. This unexpected development unnerved both the media and the BJP.”

He cited information suggesting that Arvind Kejriwal would receive his seventh summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and that both the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are taking steps to arrest him.

“We’re aware that a notice under CrPC 41A is prepared to be served to Arvind Kejriwal today (Friday), leading to his arrest in the next two to three days,” Bhardwaj added.

Asserting that the BJP is apprehensive about the alliance’s impact on electoral prospects, Bhardwaj said, “The BJP is worried because they believe it’ll be challenging for them to win in states where AAP and Congress unite. We want to convey to the BJP that even if they arrest Arvind Kejriwal, the alliance between AAP and Congress will proceed.”

Senior AAP leader Atishi also criticised the BJP’s approach, declaring, “Send as many notices and summonses as you want, arrest every AAP leader, threaten us with everything, but we will not succumb to your intimidation. We have fought for the republic and Constitution of this country, and we will continue to do so.”

Presently, all seven seats in Delhi are held by BJP MLAs, each with a vote share exceeding 50%. While both AAP and Congress favoured an alliance in Delhi, decisions regarding Gujarat, Goa, and Haryana remained unresolved issues.
