Three people were shot on Wednesday morning at an Immigration and U.S. Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, before the suspected gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials confirmed.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told CNN that authorities are still working to identify whether those injured were employees, civilians, or detainees. “It could be employees, it could be civilians that were visiting the facility, it could be detainees,” Lyons said.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed that there were “multiple injuries and fatalities” at the field office, adding that the motive remains unclear. Noem also noted that recent weeks have seen an uptick in targeting of ICE agents.
Emergency Response and Ongoing Investigation
The Dallas Fire-Rescue Department said it received a call at 6:41 a.m. reporting a shooting at or near the ICE office. Spokesperson Jason L. Evans described the situation as an “active and ongoing incident” and declined to provide further details.

Dozens of emergency vehicles rushed to the scene, and traffic cameras captured a six-lane freeway near the facility brought to a complete standstill, with cars and semi-trailers halted on an interstate exit.
Recent Attacks on Immigration Facilities in Texas
The Dallas incident follows a series of recent violent attacks targeting immigration facilities and federal agents in Texas. On July 4, attackers dressed in black military-style clothing opened fire outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, injuring a police officer. At least 11 people were later charged in connection with the attack.
Just days later, on July 7, a man with an assault rifle fired dozens of rounds at federal agents leaving a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen. The suspect, Ryan Louis Mosqueda, injured a responding police officer before being shot and killed by authorities. Weapons, ammunition, and backpacks were later recovered from his car.
Officials have not confirmed whether today’s Dallas shooting is linked to those earlier incidents. Investigations remain underway.
