New Delhi: Former Australian cricket star Andrew Symonds died in a car accident outside Townsville in Queensland State on Saturday night. According to the police, it was a single car accident that caused the death of the all-round cricketer.
According to the report, police had tried to save his life by attempting to revive him but he succumbed to his injuries as the car left the road and rolled. Symonds was the sole occupant in the vehicle when the incident of car-crash took place.
The 46-year-old cricketer had played 198 one-day matches and 26 test matches for his country between 1998 and 2009.
Expressing shock over the untimely demise of Symonds, Cricket Australia tweeted, “Vale Andrew Symonds. We are shocked and saddened by the loss of the loveable Queenslander, who has tragically passed away at the age of 46.”
The International Cricket Council (ICC) also said in a tweet, “Following the tragic news of the death of Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds, the cricketing world bid farewell to one of the most well-liked former stars.”
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also expressed shock over the death of the former Australian all-rounder. In a tweet, Tendulkar said, “Andrew Symond’s demise is shocking news for all of us to absorb. Not only was he a brilliant all-rounder, but also a live-wire on the field. I have fond memories of the time we spent together in Mumbai Indians. May his soul rest in peace, condolences to his family & friends.”
The news related to his death was taken as a blow in the world cricket fraternity as almost every cricketer paid tribute to him. His death is being considered as another tragic blow after the recent deaths of Shane Warne and Rod Marsh.
