New Delhi: Amid sudden hike in number of cases of Covid-19 across the country ahead of Independence Day, Centre on Friday asked all states and union territories to avoid huge gathering during the celebration. The decision to this effect was taken by the central government after the country recorded as many as 16,561 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours. Apart from this, the government has also asked people to maintain Covid appropriate behaviour like wearing of mask maintaining social distance, sanitize hands besides other necessary steps.
Amid warning from the Centre, many states have started taking strict measures. Many states have made mandatory use of mask and making social distancing. A day ago, Delhi has restored its order of mandatory use of mask. The Delhi authorities have also made a provision of fine of Rs 500 for not wearing the mask at public places.

Since 16,561 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, India’s Active caseload currently reached 1,23,535. Active cases are at 0.28 per cent while recovery rate is currently at 98.53 per cent. With total 18,053 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours, total recoveries reached to 4,35,73,094 in the country. Daily positivity rate is now 5.44 per cent while weekly positivity rate is 4.88 per cent. According to the Centre’s data, 87.95 crore total tests were conducted so far and 3,04,189 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. As far as Covid-19 vaccination is concerned, 207.47 crore total vaccine doses have been administered so far under nationwide vaccination drive while 17,72,441 doses administered in last 24 hours.
