A major controversy erupted in Karnataka’s Belagavi after Congress banners displaying a distorted map of India were spotted during an event marking the 100th anniversary of the Belgaum session presided over by Mahatma Gandhi. The banners, which showed parts of Jammu and Kashmir missing, have drawn sharp criticism from the BJP, which labeled the incident as “shameful” and accused the Congress of undermining India’s sovereignty.
The Karnataka BJP took to social media to express outrage, alleging that the Congress intentionally portrayed the map incorrectly for political gains. “Congress has shown utter disrespect for India’s sovereignty by displaying a distorted map at their Belagavi event, portraying Kashmir as part of Pakistan. All this just to appease their vote bank,” the BJP’s Karnataka unit tweeted.
BJP leaders also called on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take immediate action. “Remove these controversial banners and take action against those responsible for distorting the map of India,” the party demanded.
Allegations of Foreign Influence
During a press conference, BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi intensified the attack, suggesting a deeper conspiracy. “Is this a signal from George Soros’s secret service or another anti-India power operating from abroad? This is not an isolated incident. Congress has shown similar behavior in the past,” he said.

Trivedi accused the Congress of colluding with anti-India forces, linking the incident to Soros, a billionaire investor and vocal critic of the Modi government. “We would like to ask Congress why parts of India are repeatedly shown cut off in their material. Is it coincidence or conspiracy?” he questioned.
Congress Responds
The Congress has yet to release an official statement addressing the allegations. However, party insiders dismissed the BJP’s accusations as politically motivated and aimed at diverting attention from pressing governance issues in Karnataka and beyond.

The incident has escalated into a significant political flashpoint, with the BJP framing it as a threat to India’s unity and integrity. “This issue is not just about a map; it’s about safeguarding India’s identity and sovereignty,” Trivedi emphasized.
As the controversy unfolds, the Congress faces mounting pressure to clarify its position and address the allegations. Meanwhile, the BJP continues to leverage the issue to question the opposition’s commitment to India’s territorial integrity, setting the stage for heightened political tensions ahead of key elections.
