An all-women Special Investigation Team led by IPS officer Gurpreet Deo has also been constituted to investigate the incident.

Chandigarh: Amid growing protest over alleged leak of objectionable videos of girls from Chandigarh University’s hostel, police on Monday arrested three persons for their alleged involvement. The university administration has also suspended warden of girls’ hostel Rajvinder Mann for allegedly misbehaving with the girl students. The administration has announced shutting down of the university for next five days.
An all-women Special Investigation Team led by IPS officer Gurpreet Deo has also been constituted to investigate the incident. The team will comprise three members. The law enforcement agency has requested students to avoid rumours as the matter is being investigated by senior officials. Police have also assured to take action against those involved in any such conspiracy and have said that the privacy and dignity of everyone concerned will be respected.
DGP Punjab, in a tweet, said, “On directions of CM @BhagwantMann a three-member all-women SIT to investigate #ChandigarhUniversity case, under the supervision of senior IPS officer Gurpreet Deo.”
He also tweeted, “One student & 02 others arrested. Thanks to DGP @himachalpolice for excellent co-operation. Electronic devices seized and sent for forensic examination. SIT will go to the bottom of the conspiracy. No person to be spared, if found involved.”
The DGP concluded, “Appeal to everyone to maintain peace and harmony. Don’t fall to unverified rumours. Let’s work together for peace in society.”
Replying to the Punjab DGP, senior IPS officer Gurpreet Deo tweeted, “Visited Chandigarh University yesterday and got acquainted with the facts of the case. Punjab Police is committed to getting to the bottom of the matter and ensuring justice!”
The hostel warden, who was suspended by the university administration, reportedly made a delay to inform police about the matter. In a viral video, the warden was seen coming down heavily on the girl who has been accused of sending the videos to men outside the university. Police have arrested three people in this connection including a college girl and her male friend, a resident of Shimla. Another man who has been arrested reportedly runs a bakery shop.
Meanwhile, the protesting students ended their stir on Monday morning after assurance from police and university administration to conduct a fair and transparent investigation into the allegations.
