Ranchi: BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Manoj Tiwari along with seven others were booked after they allegedly forced Deoghar airport officials to clear their chartered flight for a take-off at night.
An FIR was lodged after airport DSP Suman Anan registered a complaint. Those booked also includes the airport director. The accused have been charged with endangering the life or safety of others and criminal trespass.
The FIR mentions that on August 31, BJP’s Lok Sabha MP from Godda Nishikant Dubey, his son Kanishk Kant Dubey, Mahikant Dubey, MP Manoj Tiwari, Mukesh Pathak, Devta Pandey and Pintu Tiwari entered the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Deoghar airport in Jharkhand without permission and pressurised officials to give clearance to their chartered plane.
Notably, the newly-inaugurated airport is yet to get clearance for night operations. Currently, the airport is allowed to function only till 30 minutes before sunset.
In the complaint, Anan said the sunset for the day of the incident was at 6.03 pm but the chartered plane took off at 6.17 pm. However, Dubey told the media that the airport authority did not have any objection. “We took permission from the director of the airport I am ready to fight the case, we will put forward our side of the events,” Dubey said.
On Friday night, Dubey engaged in a Twitter batter with Deoghar District Magistrate (DM) Manjunath Bhajantri. The DM said Dubey “breached national security” by bypassing the safety regulations and forcibly getting clearance for his flight.
In a retaliatory tweet Dubey said, “I’d suggest you to study aviation rules again. As an IAS officer, the nation expects better from you. Now the matter is under investigation at all possible levels, please comment further only after reading aviation and airport rules carefully henceforth.”
