Chadha said that after the results for the MCD elections were declared, and because they had lost and not reached the majority mark, the BJP had later announced that they would not fight the election for the post of the Mayor of the MCD.
New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday threw a challenge open to the BJP and dared it to contest the MCD Mayor elections. Cornering the BJP, AAP Senior Leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha stated, “BJP must fight the mayoral election themselves if they dare to, what is the point of hiding behind an independent candidate like a coward? BJP had announced that it will not contest the mayoral election, but is now fielding an independent candidate, who will be supported by all BJP councillors. It does not suit such a party to contest elections from the backdoor while pointing its guns on the shoulders of an independent candidate. BJP should come forward and contest the election, the people of Delhi will decide who will be the mayor of MCD. The public threw BJP out of Delhi’s political rings in MCD elections, BJP neither has any significance in the assembly nor in the municipal corporation. Joblessness is at its peak in Delhi BJP, their leaders now looking for jobs on naukri.com.”
Chadha said, “After the results for the MCD elections were declared, and because they had lost and not reached the majority mark, the Bharatiya Janata Party had later announced that they would not fight the election for the post of the Mayor of the MCD. After looking at the love and support that the people of Delhi had given to their son Arvind Kejriwal, the BJP had made this announcement at the time. Several BJP leaders, some of them very senior in the party, came out in front of the media and made this announcement to not fight the election for the post of the Mayor. But now we are getting to hear from the opposition camp that the BJP has decided to support an Independent candidate for the post of the Mayor. All the BJP candidates are going to support this Independent candidate for the election of the Mayor and basically try and challenge the Aam Aadmi Party candidate. I welcome this decision of the BJP, but at the same time I also want to give them a little bit of advice.”
He said, “Everyone and every party has the right to fight an election. Now it is their decision whether they want to come out onto the battlefield and directly face the challenger and fight, or whether they want to enter the battlefield through the backdoor using an Independent candidate. But I would like to ask them a question? Why do they fear AAP so much? If they really want to fight the election to the post of the Mayor, then come forward and do it. Why try and fight the election through a backdoor candidate? Why use an Independent candidate and try to support them like thieves and fight against the Aam Aadmi Party? The BJP calls itself the biggest party in the world, then why use such childish tactics and fight an election. It does not auger well for them. Why are they so afraid of AAP that they cannot directly come and fight against us on the battlefield? I would like to tell them that if they have the courage, then they should come and fight against us directly and not need to use an Independent candidate.”
He added, “In the recently concluded MCD elections, they people of Delhi have overwhelmingly come out and supported AAP and officially made the BJP exit from the politics of Delhi. The BJP in Delhi does not run the government in the Vidhan Sabha and now nor does it run the government at the MCD. The condition of the BJP leaders is so bad that they are now looking for jobs on Naukri.com as because of the love that people of Delhi have for AAP, the unemployment status of the BJP leaders in Delhi only seems to be on the rise.”
He concluded, “The only piece of advice that I have for my colleagues in the BJP, and I agree this is an advice that no one so far has asked for, but I would like to tell them that if they want to fight the election for the post of Mayor against AAP, then they should have the courage to come forward and fight it, and not fight it under any disguise. It does not augur well for any political party to fight an election out of fear of their opponent and to fight it under different pretexts. So, the BJP should have the courage to fight AAP directly and that is my only advice to them. You call yourselves the biggest party in the world, so why do you fear AAP so much? Come out and fight directly and let the people of Delhi decide which party should form the government and which party should have the Mayor’s post.”
