New Delhi: Aiming to take advantage on ground in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party today announced a list of 195 candidates from across various states. The list announced by the central team included heavyweights like Prime Minister Narendra Modi from prestigious Varanasi constituency, Home Minister Amit Shah from Gujarat’s Ghandhinagar seat and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Lucknow. The BJP list also included names for 5 out of 7 Lok Sabha seats of Delhi. The Election Commission of India, however, yet to notify the dates for elections.

The saffron party in power since 2014 in the centre and this is the third consecutive term when it has fielded Modi from Varanasi. Amit Shah has been fielded again fron Gandhinagar as he is MP from the seat since 2019. Rajnath Singh was also winner in 2019 from Lucknow and the party has again shown faith in his candidature from the same seat. Union Minister Smriti Irani will be contesting again from Amethi seat where she had defeated Congress party’s senior leader and Waynad MP Rahul Gandhi in 2019.

The party has given tickets to its 34 ministers again and names of 2 former Chief Ministers is also in the candidate list. Among the BJP’s list, 28 women candidates, 57 OBC category candidates, 47 leaders below 50 years in age have been given opportunity this time. The party has announced 51 candidates from Uttar Pradesh, 5 from Delhi and 20 from West Bengal.
In Delhi it has given ticket to Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late Sushma Swaraj, from New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, repeated Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi on third time as he is MP from the seat since 2014, Praveen Khandelwal from Chandni Chowk, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. Bidhuri is currently Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly. Jat leader and former SDMC mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat from West Delhi seat. Meanwhile, it has denied ticket to South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri this time. Bidhuri was in controversy after making communal remarks against BSP lawmaker Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha last year.
The BJP list has also included Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia from Porbandar in Gujarat. Another Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has been given opportunity to fight from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala where Congress heavyweight Shashi Tharoor is MP since 2014. Both Mandviya and Chandrasekhar are Rajya Sabha MPs. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister in the Modi Cabinet, will contest from Guna in Madhya Pradesh and Bhupender Yadav will be fighting from Alwar. Kiren Rijiju will show his candidature from Arunachal West. Fomer Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan will contest from Vidisha seat.
