Addressing the gathering at Red Fort, Gandhi said that another thing that was pointed out by most of the people was that he had walked 2800 Km starting from Kanyakumari.
New Delhi: As the Bharat Jodo Yatra entered the national capital on Saturday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen leading the march in a mere half sleeves white t-shirt despite the chilling cold weather in the city, with the minimum temperature dipping to 5.4 degrees Celsius.
However, many senior leaders of the Congress party, including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge were seen wearing gloves, mufflers, and jackets while walking beside Rahul Gandhi in the yatra.
A dense layer of fog engulfed parts of the national capital Saturday morning reducing visibility to 100 metres, and affecting road and rail traffic. The Safdarjung Observatory, the capital’s primary weather station, recorded the minimum temperature at 5.4 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
“They keep asking me how do I not feel cold,” said Gandhi while referring to a journalist’s question adding why they do not ask the farmers and the poor of the country the same question as they are not even able to afford the basic amenities such as warm clothes.
The weathermen said that the capital on Saturday witnessed the coldest day of the year.
Addressing the gathering at Red Fort, Gandhi said that another thing that was pointed out by most of the people was that he had walked 2800 Km starting from Kanyakumari. “I don’t think that walking 2800 km is a big deal, as a farmer in his life walks like 20,000 km, a person working in a factory also walks close to this number so why can’t we walk to see the pain of the people,” he thundered.
Later, as the yatra completed its Delhi leg, Gandhi said that in the past 108 days of the yatra he met all kinds of people be it labour, farmer, etc, I did not find any hatred among them instead spotting fear.
“I could tell by just holding hands of the people about what they did. When you hold a laborer’s hand, you can tell that they are the hands that toil. That section of the society are not being heard and their concerns are hidden from view by the few businessmen who now control everything,” Gandhi said.
“After you face so many attacks from the people who hate you (referring to the BJP and RSS) you become damage proof so this cold will not able to harm Rahul Gandhi,” said Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar, replying on the subject of Gandhi not feeling cold.
