The grisly murder of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar, who arrived in Kolkata on May 12 for medical treatment, has taken a shocking turn as investigations reveal a meticulously planned crime involving multiple suspects and a possible “honey trap.”

Anwarul Azim Anar, who was staying with his friend Gopal Biswas, went missing a few days later and was last seen at a high-end apartment complex in New Town, where he was likely murdered, his skin peeled off and his body chopped into pieces.

Authorities in both Kolkata and Dhaka are urgently working to uncover the details surrounding Anar’s murder. Progress has been made with the arrest of Jihad Hawladar, an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant, who confessed to his involvement in the killing and dismemberment of the body of Anwarul Azim Anar.

Hawladar’s confession has led police to other suspects, including Akhtaruzzaman, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the murder.

In a significant development, Dhaka police are investigating the role of Shilasti Rahman, a woman suspected of luring Anar into a “honey trap.” Police believe Rahman, who was detained by Dhaka authorities, was acquainted with one of Anar’s killers and played a crucial role in delivering him to his death. CCTV footage from the apartment complex shows Anar entering the flat with a woman, believed to be Rahman.

“The investigation indicates the MP fell into a ‘honey trap’. It seems he was lured by the woman. We suspect he was murdered soon after he went to the flat,” relayed a Kolkata cop, citing information from Dhaka.

Further complicating the case, Akhtaruzzaman’s location remains unknown, though police believe he may be in the United States. He is suspected of financing the murder, allegedly paying Rs 5 crore to the killers of Anwarul Azim Anar. The flat where Anar was murdered and dismembered was rented by a friend of Akhtaruzzaman, a state government employee.

Hawladar provided disturbing details of the crime, describing how he and his accomplices killed Anwarul Azim Anar, skinned the body, and removed the flesh to prevent identification. The remains were cut into small pieces, packed into plastic bags, and dumped across Kolkata. Police also believe some body parts were stored in a refrigerator in the flat before disposal. CCTV footage captured one of the suspects exiting the flat with a large suitcase, likely containing parts of Anar’s dismembered body.
