PM Modi said that both the countries will soon start discussions on a bilateral economic comprehensive partnership agreement.
New Delhi: India and Bangladesh on Tuesday held bilateral talks to strengthen the relationship between both India and Bangladesh. Both the countries, during the talks, reviewed their ties with emphasis to strengthen it in future. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina held a joint briefing on Tuesday in which they reiterated their commitment to achieve new heights.
PM Modi, in his address, said that India is the biggest market for exports from Bangladesh. He said that both the countries will soon start discussions on a bilateral economic comprehensive partnership agreement. He said that both the countries will further boost tie up as the relationship will achieve new heights.
PM Modi said that both the countries have increased trade in a rapid manner. Now it has been decided to boost cooperation and trade in the fields of IT, Space and Nuclear sectors. India and Bangladesh also signed documents on power sharing.
“We also decided to increase cooperation in sectors like IT, space and nuclear energy, which are of interest to our younger generations. We will also continue to cooperate on climate change and on preserving a common heritage like the Sundarbans,” he said.
There are 54 rivers that pass through the Indo-Bangladesh border, and have been linked to the livelihood of the people of both countries for centuries. These rivers, folk stories about them, folk songs, have also been a witness to our shared cultural heritage. Today we have signed an important agreement on water sharing from the Kushiyara River. This will benefit Southern Assam in India and Sylhet region in Bangladesh,” PM Modi said.
“Today we also stressed on cooperation against terrorism and fundamentalism. To keep the spirit of 1971 alive, it is also very necessary that we face such forces together, who want to attack our mutual trust,” PM Modi added.
