The Bengaluru police have arrested Aarav Hanoy, accused of murdering his girlfriend, vlogger Maya Gogoi, and spending two days with her body in a service apartment. This chilling crime, which has sent shockwaves across the city, took place in Indiranagar and came to light last Tuesday.
Maya Gogoi, a 29-year-old vlogger originally from Assam, was found dead in a service apartment where she had checked in with Aarav on November 23. Maya, who lived with her sister in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout, had told her family she was attending office parties that weekend.
Premeditated Murder
Police investigations revealed that Aarav planned the murder in advance. He reportedly brought a knife and a nylon rope to the apartment, both of which he purchased online.
Timeline of Events:
- November 23: The couple checked into the apartment.
- November 26 (Midnight): Maya was allegedly killed.
- November 28 (8:19 AM): Aarav was captured on CCTV leaving the apartment after two days.

Post-Murder Behavior
During his two-day stay with Maya’s body, Aarav allegedly spent time smoking cigarettes while seated near the corpse. His prolonged stay and the tools he brought with him have led police to suspect he may have considered dismembering her body.
After leaving the apartment, Aarav switched off his phone and fled to Bengaluru’s Majestic area. Police tracked him using CCTV footage and identified the cab he used. He was finally apprehended on Thursday after an extensive manhunt that extended to Kerala and neighboring states.
Victim’s Background and Evidence
Maya worked at a private firm in Bengaluru and had been dating Aarav for six months after meeting him on social media. CCTV footage showed the couple entering the apartment together, and no third party was recorded during their stay.
Maya’s sister confirmed their relationship, though Aarav’s motive remains unclear.
