Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail in the ongoing liquor policy case by a Delhi court on Thursday. His lawyer successfully argued that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) lacked substantial evidence against him, leading to the court’s decision to grant bail.
Arvind Kejriwal, who leads the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is expected to be released from jail on Friday once the bail order reaches the prison authorities.
The court’s decision came after Kejriwal’s lawyer contested the ED’s case, highlighting that the allegations were primarily based on statements provided by individuals who had turned approver in the case. The lawyer argued that these individuals were not credible witnesses, as some had already admitted guilt and were promised leniency in exchange for their statements.
“The prosecution’s case heavily relies on the testimony of tainted individuals, some of whom have confessed to wrongdoing and others who have not even been arrested,” stated the lawyer of Arvind Kejriwal during the proceedings.
The ED had sought a delay in signing the bail bond to allow time for possible challenges, but the court denied this request, ensuring Kejriwal’s imminent release.

The case revolves around allegations that funds obtained through the Delhi liquor policy were improperly used, including for AAP’s electoral activities in Goa. The policy itself was revoked following objections raised by the Lieutenant Governor.
Since his arrest on March 21, 2024, Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP have consistently accused the central government of using investigative agencies to target opposition leaders with unfounded charges.
The bail order marks a significant development in the legal battle, with Arvind Kejriwal set to resume his duties as Chief Minister following his release.
